Where does the money go that I give First U?

Your giving to the ministry of First United Church of Gridley does many things. Ten percent of congregational giving is used to fund local and global missions. This giving is overseen by our Missions Team.
Your giving also helps to support our staff—Senior minister, Ministry Coordinator, Youth Director, and Administrative Assistant—and the church ministries that reach our community.

Can I be in leadership?

Leadership positions at First United are positions of servanthood. If you are a growing Christian and have a heart for serving Christ in the church, you can become involved in varying levels of leadership. We believe in testing and mentoring people who desire to be leaders. If you are new to our church family, we would want to get to know you and your passion for ministry, your giftedness, and your spiritual commitment before any responsibilities would be given you. Presently, only members in good standing can serve in leadership positions in the church.

I would like to become a member. What do I need to do?

If you are a baptized believer and wish to become a member at First United, we require you to attend an informational class with other new attenders and new members to hear what our vision for ministry is, and what we hope to accomplish as a church in Gridley.
If you agree with the direction and philosophy of ministry of First United, and covenant to participate in giving your time, talents, and treasure; we would receive you into the fellowship in a public worship service.
The Scriptures tell us that we are all part of the body of Christ- the church. To affirm our connection to the body in the local church and to covenant to serve Christ in the local setting is an important part of following Christ in our day to day lives.

I would like to be more involved with First U, how do I do that?

Please come to church. Get to know us and let us get to know you. You may have interests or skills that could be used in ways that are not presently evident at First United, or you may be just the person we are looking for! Contact any of the team chairmen with your questions and interest.

I am in missions - will you sponsor me?

Our Missions Team uses criteria that fit our vision and mission values. Even if you are involved in a good mission work, we may not be able to financially support you. That is the decision of the team. They will pray for you and seek to encourage you in your work, but our financial support is decided on a case by case basis.

I want to get married at First U. What do I need to do?

The policy of First United is for our Senior Pastor to limit pre-marriage counseling to individuals connected with the church.  A marriage will not be performed if the pastor has not had this opportunity, or if the couple has not been adequately counseled by another pastor; this will be left to the senior pastor’s discretion.  If you have connections at First United Church of Gridley, and have interest in getting married, contact the church secretary at 747-2299; she will check the church calendar, and assist you.
